WEATHER INFORMATION

The Superspan has been engineered dome to withstand several kinds of weather ranging from scorching sun to freezing cold but it is always a good idea to keep an eye on the weather, especially in the spring when windy weather peaks. The first defense against the weather is to make sure the dome is properly anchored to the deck. Trying to save time by spacing anchors farther apart will not only endanger the integrity of the dome, it will void the warranty. If an inadequate number of anchors are installed, it places a much greater strain on the individual anchor as well as an undue strain on the material around the anchors.

Heavy winds are about the only thing that could damage the dome. Even though we have had reports of that the Superspan dome withstanding much greater winds, we require that the dome be deflated if winds are forecast above 30 mph. High winds can sometimes bring power outages which could cause your blower to lose power during a storm which could cause very serious damage to the dome. If a storm is forecast for your area, deflate the dome and let it rest on the water. Open the zipper to allow faster deflation. This must be done before the winds arrive and the dome should never be deflated during heavy winds. If winds arrive unexpectedly, you may want to increase blower speed if the dome seems to be rocking and flexing more than usual. This will make the dome more taut. Remember to cut back the blower to normal speed after the winds have died down. Also be sure to check all anchors and make sure that they are properly secured to the dome. If you find one that has become detached, it is easier to reattach from inside the dome by grasping the bottom of the airskirt and pulling it toward you and slipping it on the anchor. If you have water resting on the deflated dome after a heavy rain or snowfall, simply turn the blower on and allow the dome to begin inflating. The water will collect in one or two corners of the pool and from there it can either be siphoned or pumped off of the dome.

During snowy weather the Superspan dome performs very well. Snow will usually melt upon contact with the dome or it may slightly build up and slide off by itself. A heavy snow during fairly cold weather can build up on the dome enough to cause it to sag and there are a couple of ways to deal with it. The easiest way to deal with it is to shut off the blower and allow the dome to settle on the water. This way the snow will eventually melt because of contact with the warm pool water, and the water can be pumped off using either a hose as a siphon or a motorized pump. If you want to prevent the above from happening you can remove the snow from the dome by doing the following: Take a 1" rope that is about twenty longer than the width of the dome and tie overhand knots every two feet. With one person on each side of the dome, throw the rope over the width of the dome and by using a sawing action, the snow can be slid off by walking back and forth along the dome.

Very cold weather will not usually cause any problems with the dome. Your pool heater will warm the air in the dome. You will need to operate your equipment at all times to prevent pipes from freezing. Your heated pool water acts as a huge heat mass that heats everything around it, namely the air inside the dome. If you've cut back your blower speed once your dome has been fully inflated, the amount of cool air coming into the dome is negligible.
